For this seriously simple slow cooker beef recipe I used silverside but you can use brisket, short rib. It came out beautifully tender and the sauce was delicious. This is a no fuss, 5 minute preparation and then hours in the slow cooker to tenderise and create a fabulous, full of flavour dinner. It just could not be easier. (4 – 6 people)
What you need
1.5kg short ribs or 1 kg brisket or silverside
1 bay leaf and sprig of thyme
1 cup beef stock
6 -8 peeled baby onions
1 punnet green beans
2 medium carrots peeled and roughly chopped
about 12 baby potatoes
The process
Mix together the gravy powder and the salad mix.
Place the beef into the slow cooker with the beef stock and vegetables.
Set your slow cooker to low. Allow to cook for about 7 or 8 hours. No need to look in on it.
Hell could it be any easier… a weekend must do recipe for winter days.
Serve with some roast veggies and you have a winner.
Hi Graham, I like the way you are including images of some of the products you use ~ it gives us a good idea of what you really mean.

I want make this dish so badly, but I can not find the Italian dressing mix? Is there an alternative product I can use or can anybody tell me where I can buy it.
Hi Amanda, you can get them at most large supermarkets and Spar outlets. Here is a picture to help you identify them.

Thank you very much, I will have a look out for it.
Hi, can this also be done in the oven?
Hi Leanne, you can do it in the oven. If you have a cast iron pot or a clay pot it works beautifully, otherwise any oven dish big enough with a lid will work. Happy days G
Very easy, very nice, a bit salty. I doubled up (family of 5) We had it with rice tonight, was very salty and i think it needs more water, but this is still a recipe for keeps – just adjust to your likes…4.5/5
Hi Angi, so glad you enjoyed and thanks for the rating. Have a lekker day G
Hi Graham
Does the meat have to be in one piece – like a roast – or can it be in slices. Thanks for the great site!!
Rachelle
Hi Rachelle, this one is a roast so the whole piece is what it is meant to be. Give it a try, it’s fantastic. G
