Lynn asked for chocolate icing recipes for the perfect chocolate cake and I can’t believe I hadn’t added them, so here they are. Since this posting, I have also used it on a few other cakes including the Hot milk chocolate layer cake. This cake you just have to try.
Easy chocolate icing
2 cups icing sugar
60g softened butter
3 tablespoons cocoa
3 Tablespoons hot milk
Add all of the ingredients to a bowl and whisk furiously until fluffy and uniform in colour.
Decadent choclate icing
180g 70% chocolate
250g room temp butter
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1 1/4 cups icing sugar
1 tablespoon instant coffee(optional but really good)
Break the chocolate into pieces and melt over a double boiler, remove from heat.
In another bowl add the butter and beat on high until fluffy and yellow (3-4 minutes)
Add the vanilla and egg yolk and beat for another 3 minutes or so. Slowly add the icing sugar and beat on medium/low (or you’ll get it all over yourself) until smooth.
Dissolve the coffee in 2 teaspoons of hot water and add it, along with the chocolate to the mixture and mix until uniformly blended and smooth.

Fantastic!!! This recipe is realy easy to make and delicious on the cake.
Fantastic Akiela, delicious days G
Hello,
I’m looking for a recipe for bar one icing.. anyone got any ideas?
Thank you 🙂
Hi there, looking for a orley whip cream icing – chocolate recipe, any ideas?
Hi Caren, I imagine you could melt choclate and simply mix it into the orly whip for a great chocolate icing or blend in icing sugar and vanilla essence. It would be more like a flavoured cream that an icing but decadent to say the least.. Have a great weekend G
Hi, thanks for the response. Can I not just add some cocoa powder? If so, how much….
Hi Caren, if you add cocoa powder you will probably need a sweetener as well and not having used it before I would suggest you add and taste, add and taste. If you take a look at the cream cheese icing recipe you could get a good idea of the different volumes. Start out with a bit less of both because from what I recall Orley whip has a sweeter taste to begin with but not familiar with it. Cheers for now G

hi
do you have a recipe for mint choc icing???
Hi Layla, not really but you could just crush up a mint crisp or two nice and finely, warm to melt the choc and add to the icing mixture. Cheers for now G
Hi Graham,
I’m an idiot in the kitchen.
What size pan? No salt?
Help!
These are just the icing recipes, the chocolate cake recipe is here
https://cookbook.co.za/baking/cakes/perfect-chocolate-cake/ It needs a 25cm tin. Give them a go Valerie
Will this chocolate icing get hard on the cake – as I am looking for chocolate icing that is melted / sticky like when eating later
Hi Charlene, no it will stay sticky.. Cheers for now G
